Hairline Correction for Men with Receding M-shaped Hairline:
Graft Survival Rate for FUE Hair Transplant
Many men experience receding hairlines at the temples, creating an M-shaped hairline, even if they do not suffer from overall hair loss. These men often consider hairline correction to fill in the receding areas, but may end up with unnatural hairlines or sparse frontal hair, leading them to seek further consultation at Mo & Line Plastic Surgery Clinic.

While it might seem straightforward to address only the receding parts of the hairline, this approach can result in an unnatural appearance. Complaints often arise when the hairline remains wide or when thick hairs are transplanted in a straight line, making it impossible to reveal the forehead naturally.
The fundamental issue is that focusing solely on the receding areas without considering the entire hairline and various facial elements leads to unsatisfactory results. When correcting an M-shaped hairline, the surgeon must take a comprehensive approach, considering the overall harmony of the face and incorporating various design elements.

Is Graft Survival Rate Higher with FUSS (FUT)?
Once the hairline design is finalized, a decision must be made between FUSS (FUT), FUE, or hybrid methods. While factors like scalp condition, hair density, hair thickness, curliness, follicle angle, rate of hair loss progression, and potential for future transplants determine the safest and most appropriate method, the choice between FUSS (FUT) and FUE can be challenging. Although FUSS (FUT) is often perceived to have a higher graft survival rate, this is actually influenced more by the surgeon’s experience and expertise than by the method itself.

For each patient, factors such as follicle length, depth, angle, thickness, scalp softness, scarring from previous surgeries, seborrheic dermatitis, cowlick position, and follicle distribution by thickness must be thoroughly considered to minimize skin and follicle damage during extraction. To increase graft survival rate, it is crucial to minimize the time follicles remain outside the body, which is why the extraction and implantation process is carried out swiftly. Thanks to meticulous pre- and post-operative care and attention to each step of the procedure, our clinic maintains a graft survival rate of 93-97% for FUE hair transplants.
Preference for Forceps & Slit Technique Over Implantation Device
We adhere to the forceps & slit technique, avoiding the use of implantation devices. This method involves creating precise slits and rapidly implanting follicles of varying thickness using forceps. Implantation devices are less effective for fine follicles that need to be transplanted at sharp angles in the frontal hairline and can cause issues like sunken scars and follicle damage, leading to further hair loss. Our extensive experience with the slit & forceps method has consistently yielded satisfactory results, even for large-scale follicle transplants of up to 2500 hairs.
