“Pre-surgery appearance of receding M-shaped area and temples.
It’s surprising how many women experience a receding M-shaped forehead, resembling that of men. Genetic factors, stress, or health-related issues can contribute to hair loss, resulting in the recession of both sides of the forehead. Additionally, the side profile of the hairline often forms a harsh angle, making the face appear broader and deviating from a sophisticated and soft image.
However, it’s possible to correct the M-shaped forehead and angular side profile to create a natural and smooth line that harmonizes with one’s facial features. Two key techniques are essential for this: precise hairline design and the implementation of a gradient from fine to thicker hair, resembling natural growth patterns.
To prevent such risks from the outset, carefully examine post-operative photos of female hair transplant surgeries to ensure that the hairline appears round and natural without looking awkward, that the sides do not appear narrowed causing the side profile to look cramped, and that there are thick hairs at the front with no loss of fine hairs.

More and more patients are coming to our hospital for re-correction after having hairline correction surgery elsewhere, resulting in an unnatural doll-like appearance of the M-shaped hairline. At our hospital, we use our experience in facial plastic surgery and hairline correction surgery to analyze various three-dimensional elements of the patient’s face and design harmonious proportions for the receding M-shaped angle and side profile angle.

To achieve a natural transition from fine hairs, like baby hairs, to thicker hairs according to the design, follicles needed for this purpose are harvested reliably, and transplanted using slit and forceps techniques, adjusting each follicle’s angle and depth accordingly. With these techniques, one can maintain a natural hairline on the forehead and sides as originally intended.

Some of the patients who come to our hospital for M-shaped hairline correction still have existing baby hairs in place. In such cases, it’s essential to transplant hair grafts in between these existing baby hairs without damaging them, ensuring that the direction and angle of the transplanted hairs mimic those of the existing baby hairs for a natural-looking hairline result. In the case of the woman below, existing baby hairs were present in the transplantation area, but through the use of dual slit & forceps technique, the hair grafts were transplanted without causing baby hair loss or visible scars, resulting in the stable and natural growth of hair of various thicknesses.

Depending on the correction results of the M-shaped and side hairlines, one can achieve a smaller-looking face and a cute, feminine image. However, this is only possible when meeting a surgeon with extensive expertise in various techniques to achieve such results.
