Q. Q. I have a question about the cost of a hairline hair transplant. I visited many clinics to get a hairline correction surgery, but the price varies too much by clinic. How much is the reasonable cost for a hairline hair transplant?
In order to improve the hairline in an aesthetic way, it is essential to check the overall balance of the face and the proportion of the facial object. An ideal hairline’s center position is relevant to the overal facial proportion.
Photos taken from the front and from both sides at 45 degrees, wearing a headband, and holding down the head certainly help this process. However, photos have a limitation in figuring out the information required for area calculation and designing the hairline, such as the three-dimensional depth and forehead prominence. Also, the state of the scalp and hair quality(thickness, curliness, etc.) often determines the hair transplant volume and the method.

The price is set depending on the surgical method, the volume of the transplant hair, and each clinic’s competency level. But the clinics that spend a lot of costs on business aspects other than the fundamental elements, such as marketing, cannot reduce the price much. Also, many people have a misunderstanding that more volume of hair to be transplanted does not guarantee a natural-looking outcome. A higher price doesn’t necessarily guarantee a better surgical outcome.
We recommend you check if the consultation is done thoroughly by a doctor, if there is a ghost doctor, and if other medical staff other than the doctor operates the transplant procedure. Get the surgery at a clinic where you can get an in-depth consultation and good information about hair transplants before and after the surgery.
Hairline hair transplant surgeries can result in an awkward look like a doll’s head, even with a high engraftment rate, if it was designed two-dimensionally, filling empty spots or lowering the hairline a bit.
It is a type of surgery that requires the appropriate designing process that considers the overall facial balance, including the facial structure and the distance between the eyes, nose, mouth, and such. Also, the special technique to handle follicles delicately by the thicknesses during the SLIT and transplant stages is a must. The transplant stage, especially, must be intentionally done by the surgeon, appropriately placing the follicles in different thicknesses and controlling their angle and direction well.
Side hairlines must be transplanted considering the edges of the eyebrows, the wideness of the hairline, cheekbones, and prominence on both sides. Beautiful side hairlines can be created by transplanting hair intentionally making a gradation from very thin to thick hair. These days, the development in hairline hair transplant technology allows experienced surgeons to improve the noticeable peak parts to become smoother and make the overall impression of the face gentle.
The surgical method is divided into two: non-incision(follicle-unit harvest) and incision method. The method is chosen based on the characteristics of the scalp, the thickness and density of hair, and the preference for surgical scars. Of course, there are cases where we combine the two methods to increase the harvest volume and get naturally thin hair.
