More women are undergoing hair transplants after mini facelifts due to issues such as an unnatural side profile, a widened side hairline, thinning side hair density, and visible FUSS(FUT) scars. When considering side hairline transplants to correct a widened face profile that makes it difficult to show the ears even in summer, what should you keep in mind?

Hairline correction should not only focus on the front but also ensure the side hairline and sideburns harmonize with the overall face shape. The appearance of the side hairline can dramatically change a person’s overall facial image.

After the facelift, the face became more of a Diamond Shape, but – After hairline correction, it was transformed into a soft, feminine Oval Shape.

One of our patients had undergone a facelift, which resulted in excessive recession of the side hairline and sideburns. Although the lower face was lifted and became slimmer after the surgery, both the side and front view showed a change to a Diamond Shape, making the side profile look wider and giving the impression of a larger face.

Designing the side hairline and sideburns requires considering facial elements such as the distance from the eyes, nose length, cheekbones, and jaw. For those whose sideburns and sides are unbalanced, correcting these areas is essential to create harmonious proportions and shape.

Moreover, a natural side hairline is not a straight line but has varying peaks that should be recreated. Sideburns should also be designed with future hair growth in mind. Achieving a small, refined facial image through side and sideburn correction requires both facial surgery and hairline correction expertise.

Since the side hairline and sideburns require fewer hair grafts, a FUE method is more suitable, allowing for selective extraction of fine hairs. In this process, the back hair is not shaved but instead, only the area where follicles will be extracted is trimmed short, leaving the surrounding hair to cover the area, making the extraction less noticeable.

The gradual transition from baby hairs (vellus hair) to finer and thicker hair is essential for the side hairline and sideburns. To achieve this, it is important to precisely extract the necessary number of follicles of varying thicknesses. Fine or baby hairs tend to grow at an acute angle, almost lying flat, so the follicles must be extracted quickly and carefully in alignment with their angle and direction to avoid damage.

Additionally, these fine and baby hairs need to be implanted as closely to the skin as possible, at the sharpest angle, for natural hair growth. To achieve this, we use a precise slit design that creates tiny implantation holes aligned with the natural growth angle and direction of each follicle. The Dual Slit & Forceps Technique is then used to swiftly implant each follicle into the slits, considering the angle, direction, and depth for natural-looking results.
